Kanban Tasker for Android

Kanban Tasker for Android

The Android app has the same board and the same home screen as the web app, and adds what a phone does best: reminders that arrive even when the app is closed, and dictation recognised on the phone itself.

What the app does

  • The home screen with your next To Do tasks in order of due time, or the one task in progress. Accept, Block, Finish and Cancel are one tap each.
  • The board, one swimlane at a time. Swipe left and right between its columns, and change swimlanes from the list or with the arrows. Tap a card to edit, block, finish or move it.
  • Reminders set as alarms on the phone. They arrive when the app is closed and after the phone restarts, and tapping one opens the board at that task. Once you allow exact alarms (the app asks once), they come at the exact minute.
  • Dictation of a task and when it is due, such as “tomorrow at 5 pm” or “next Monday 9 o’clock”. Speech is recognised by Android on the phone and never sent to any service.
  • Offline use: your tasks are kept on the phone, and what you change offline syncs when the connection is back.
  • The same tasks as in your browser: sign in with the same account on kanban-task.com and both show the same board, synced every minute while the app is open.
  • Sign-in with the Google account on your phone, or with your e-mail and a password.
  • Dark mode and a 24-hour clock, if you prefer them.

Install it

  1. On your phone, download the app: kanban-tasker.apk (1.3 MB, Android 8 or newer).
  2. Open the downloaded file. The first time, your phone asks whether your browser may install apps: allow it.
  3. Open Kanban Tasker and make an account, or sign in with the one you use on the web.

A version for Google Play is on its way. The two are signed differently, so Android can’t update one with the other: to switch later, uninstall this one, install the Play version and sign in. Your tasks come back from your account.

What it asks for, and why

  • Notifications, for your reminders.
  • Alarms and reminders, so a reminder comes at the exact minute. Without it, Android may deliver it a little late.
  • Microphone, only when you tap a microphone button to dictate.
  • Internet, to sync your tasks with your account.

It doesn’t ask for your contacts, location, photos or files, and it shows no ads. Your tasks are stored on the phone and in your account, on servers in the European Union. The privacy page has the details.

On a computer too

Open kanban-task.com in a browser and sign in. In a wide window the web app gets a computer layout: a sidebar with your swimlanes and their open tasks, columns that fill the screen, drag and drop, and N to add a task. In Chrome, dictation works there too, recognised on your computer.

Get it on your phone

Download the app, or start in your browser and add the phone later: the same account shows the same tasks on both.
